Not a happy story. Not good news. Not a single thing here that we humans can be proud of, unless you’re proud of how we have screwed up this beautiful planet of ours.
What can we do about it? Well, there are only 2 things to do in my opinion. 1. Double, if not treble our actions to minimise our carbon footprint and reliance upon fossil fuels, and that’s for those doing something about it. For those that aren’t, it’s time to start (actually it’s well past time but can’t change that now). Number 2, Batten down the hatches. Climate change IS coming. Our climate WILL change and there is nothing we can do to change that now.
Be prepared.

All a bit scary isnt it. As you say we can only double our efforts and pass the word around. Darn you. I was feeling all good about my new compost bin and now i look at it and see petrochemicals. Bugger! Im going to help you with your food forest to offset my bad eco choicesm and maybe think first next time.
I think your compost is not such a bad choice. Ok, so it’s plastic BUT if you care for it, keep it out of direct sunlight (to preserve the plastic) and look after it, it will give many years of good use in assisting you to grow your own food which does wonders for reducing carbon miles (carbon metres from garden to kitchen?). As much as I believe we must reduce the use of plastic in our lives, sometimes we need to look at the overall cost, the use to which it will be put, the longevity of the product and its recyclability at the end of its use or lifecycle. I think your compost bin will rate highly in all of those areas. 🙂
And yes, 400ppm is as scary as hell. I’m not a huge fan of trail blazing to begin with and trailblazing a path to destruction of our planet is something I am not at all keen to be a part of. 😦

At least it’s raining again here in Tassie…seems like climate change has come all at once over the last 5 years! Anyhoo…back to learning to adapt and trying to counteract, we are just about to get stuck in to digging the holes for our new big enclosed veg garden. Now that it has rained we get to “dig” the soil rather than have to hire a post hold digger because it was set like porcelain ;). Planting out little trees for a large food forest is next on the agenda…the sky is the limit! If we all get our act together we CAN make a difference folks!
For the way we live and for each other, yes we most definitely can. 🙂
We had rain yesterday too. And 20mm-50mm forecast on Tuesday! Yay 😀
The rain will soften up the ground so we can dig our holes :). Listening to Sting…very much in tune with 400 ppm…
Might soon be pond digging time here with the hopefully softened clay bake under our weeds.
Fingers crossed it keeps going, it seems to be set in here for the moment 🙂
We’ve just been out in the garden again and the rain hasn’t touched our hydrophobic bought in compost sadly. Still, more forecast, more on the radar and more desired. We’ve had enough to make the weeds grow and not a drop more. 😦
It’s pretty wet here and apparently is going to rain tomorrow as well. After that, we should have a good chance to get some holes dug.
I’m in Gisborne now n it’s bucketing down. 😀
You all give me hope for the future; I doubt it will be easy; those days are past, so far as I can see (and ‘easy’ had a very high price tag, anyway!). But in spite of change, drastic or not, we need to focus on creating a better future for the kids and grandkids and on down the line . . . and you are all finding ways to do that. If you don’t know what “400 ppm” means, you should: it’s the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is a record high since 10 MILLION years ago! But don’t lose hope; instead, work to reduce your carbon footprint and also to offset the footprints of those who don’t/won’t care to do so themselves. Yep. Scary! Still the change in weather has made life *feel* more normal. I even got a couple of carrots to germinate in the ground! A huge achievement for me! Thank goodness for a bit of rain!
