I have been nominated for a Liebster award. Thanks Gav! 🙂
It’s always nice to be recognised in the blogosphere, even if you’re being very quiet on the blog post front. A few weeks back I got an email from Gav telling me he’d nominated me for a Liebster award. Given the crazy sort of life I lead it will be no surprise to Gav or to most of you, that I’ve taken this long to get around to acknowledging and forwarding it on. 🙂
The rules for the award are thus:
- Post some Q&A about themselves by answering the questions asked
- Create 10 new questions for…
- 5 nominees from blogs/bloggers you admire and let them know
Ok, firstly, lets answer the questions Gav has asked. 🙂
Why did you start your blog?
Um, actually Gav, I have no idea anymore. It seemed the right thing to do at the time. Probably I fancied sharing the journey I had just started and possibly also for some public accountability. I’d be guessing though.
What makes you smile every day?
My kids. They make me smile at their imaginations, their perceptions of the world and wonderful things they do to help each other. They also make me tear out my hair in frustration some days. I figure it balances out, right? 😉
What is one of your talents?
I love to craft and create. I’m a fair hand at both knitting and crocheting and have had a try at nalbinding (the forerunner to both knitting and crocheting by some thousands of years, now nearly extinct) and I love to sew too, both by machine and by hand. I’ve been learning to spin and hope to learn to weave too. I guess you’d say I have a talent for learning new textile arts.
Who is a hero in your life?
Well, this is an easy one. It’s YOU Gav. You were one of the inspirations for us making the changes to our lifestyle that we did.
What is your favourite memory from your past?
Probably giving birth to Orik at home What a moment of power that was. The arrival of all of my kids would be up there though.
If the sky’s the limit, what would you like to do next with your life?
Since we have plans in the making, if I told you I’d have to kill you! 😉 I’d say “watch this space” too if it wasn’t a little premature. 🙂
What is your favourite season of the year and why?
Ooh, that’s a hard one. I love spring because it’s all about new. New baby animals, new growth and here comes summer. I love summer for its verdant growth and all the produce that comes from my gardens. Autumn is usually a huge relief as the summer gluts slowly ease off. And of course it’s harvest time for many crops too. In some ways I’d almost have to say winter is my absolute favourite though. The crops that grow now do so by themselves and garlic is on my favourite foods list too. There’s no need to water the garden, the weeds slow down and I get to curl up by the wood fire. Do you have any idea how therapeutic a good fire can be? Oh, and I love cooking on the wood stove too. And the possibility of snow here in Ballan means the coldest days are days spent in great anticipation.
What’s your favourite inspirational quote?
I can’t say as I have one that’s an overall favourite, but at the moment I’d go with “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” It makes me look at what we’re doing and my expectations from it and it’s a good place to start when things aren’t working. 🙂
If you have some spare time, what do you do?
I craft. At the moment there’s nothing in the pipeline which is actually an uncomfortable place for me to be. I almost always have some project or another on the go. in saying that, I’m working on those aforementioned plans whenever I have a spare moment these days.
Do you prefer a home-cooked meal, or to go out to a restaurant?
With 3 kids and no local family to help out we don’t get out to restaurants very often (I can’t actually remember the last time). Taking our children with us doesn’t work for our family either. So I guess we are home cooked people although I do love a cafe lunch when the opportunity arises. 🙂
Ok, now it’s your turn. I nominate
My five nominations are:
Leigh from 5 Acres and a Dream
Steven from Skill Cult
Wendy from Quarter Acre Lifestyle

Jo from All the Blue Day
My questions are:
- What’s your favourite fruit or vegetable to grow and why?

- Who is your greatest inspiration and why?

- What is your biggest challenge in living a sustainable lifestyle?
- What would you do first if money was no object?
- What is your favourite sustainable lifestyle activity?
- Where is your favourite place to visit?
